January 14, 2022
Lottie Szczurek, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Friday. A long time resident of Syracuse, Lottie attended Blodgett Vocational high school, graduating in 1944. She worked at Niagara Mohawk and Crucible, among others. Lottie married Thaddeus in 1951 and raised her family on Winchell Drive in Lakeland. She worked proudly for over 40 years as a lunch monitor in the Solvay School District, retiring at 84. Lottie loved children and had a special place in her heart for the students. Her joys in life included shopping for a great deal, teaching water aerobics, watching SU basketball and socializing with her neighbors. Lottie was proud of her Polish heritage and loved being a Babci to her grandchildren. Those who knew her would describe her as authentic and fun loving with a natural generosity. She is predeceased by husband Thaddeus Szczurek; her beloved sisters Genevieve (Joseph) Speech, Charlotte (Joseph) Barone and Josephine Galante; brother Andrew Smith and countless close friends and neighbors. Lottie is survived by her children, Dr. Roberta Szczurek of Rochester and Thad (Kate) Szczurek of Baldwinsville; grandchildren Robie, TJ (and his mother, Tracey Diamond), Kylie and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to Allison, Vanessa and Crystal for their care and compassion. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Wednesday, at the Giminski-Wysocki Funeral Home; 1320 West Genesee Street in Syracuse. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in support of women’s welfare to the YWCA at www.ywca-Syracuse.org or Attn: Director Fanny Villarreal, 401 Douglas St, Syracuse 13203.
