Gerald R. Legawiec

Gerald R. Legawiec of Syracuse, 73, devoted husband and father, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March, 15, 2022. He served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1976. After 50 years, he retired on October 1, 2004 from Laborers Local 633. He was a parishioner of The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, who loved going to the casino, gardening, his dog baby, but most of all he adored his family. He had a heart of gold and would help anyone in need. He was an avid animal lover, who would feed the neighborhood squirrels. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. Gerald was predeceased by his wife Bernadine A. Legawiec of 48 years; his parents Walter and Mary Legawiec and brothers Thomas and Robert Legawiec. He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Legawiec (Lester), and sister Kathleen Szczepaniak and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Sunday, March 20, 2022, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, at Giminski-Wysocki Funeral Home; 1320 W. Genesee Street, Syracuse. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 21, 2022, at The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus; 927 Park Ave, at 9:30 AM. Burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lakeland to follow. Donations can be made to Hospice of Central New York of the Finger Lakes; 990 7th North Street, Liverpool, NY 13088.
