Josephine Caroline (Zaloska) Wisneski

Josephine Caroline (Zaloska) Wisneski went home to the Lord on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on January 28, 1928, in Syracuse, Josephine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. A lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Basilica, she lived a life of faith, family, and tradition. Josephine attended elementary school in Warners and graduated from Solvay High School on June 23, 1945. On June 12, 1948, she married the love of her life, Henry William Wisneski, with whom she shared 56 wonderful years. Together, they raised three children—Donna, Henry Jr., and William—and built a home filled with love, laughter, and the warmth of their Polish heritage. She and Henry loved traveling, spending time outdoors, and taking long scenic drives. Their grandchildren hold cherished memories of extended vacations with them in the Adirondacks, especially on Fourth Lake, where they created lifelong traditions. Josephine embraced the Polish heritage she married into with great pride. She loved listening and dancing to Polka music and was a member of the Syracuse Polish Home. An active participant in the Sacred Heart Seniors Club, she enjoyed a vibrant social life with her beloved sisters, Harriette (2018) and Stephanie (2017). The three were inseparable, always dressed in their finest as they attended church functions, senior club events, and family gatherings that became the heart of their family's traditions. She also served as a devoted, contributing member of the Rosary Society. Known for her warmth and kindness, Grandma Jo was always a pleasure to be around. She filled every room with love, choosing joy, and making everyone feel special with her gentle spirit. Josephine enjoyed cooking and was known for filling her home with comforting aromas every Sunday. She was also an avid gardener, cultivating impressive zucchini and other vegetables in her backyard. She worked at Ticor Title and retired in 1986, embracing her golden years with an active and fulfilling life. Josephine was predeceased by her husband, Henry (2004); her son, Henry Anthony Wisneski (2020); and her sisters, Harriette (2018) and Stephanie (2017). Though she will be deeply missed, her love and legacy live on through her family. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Wisneski; her son, William Wisneski; her grandchildren, Brian (Erin) Wisneski, Eric (Lauren) Wisneski, Amanda Wisneski, and Billy (Abby) Wisneski; her great-grandchildren, Cassie, Cora, Carissa, Jocelyn, and Jason; and her great-great-granddaughter, Addie. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am at The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus; 927 Park Ave, Syracuse on Thursday, March 6. Burial will be at Sacred Heart cemetery in Geddes. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Sacred Heart Basilica in Josephine’s memory. Josephine’s kindness, warmth, and unwavering devotion to her family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
