Joanne Rose Ziemba

Joanne Rose Ziemba, 90, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a very well fed family. Born in Utica, NY, to Joseph and Anna Nicotera, Joanne’s life was defined by her unwavering devotion to those she held dear. In her early life, Joanne married her high school sweetheart, Stanley Ziemba, and the two moved to Eastwood, where they shared a beautiful and happy marriage for 56 years until his passing in 2011. Joanne was the ultimate homemaker, turning her house into a warm sanctuary filled with the aroma of home cooked meals and the sound of laughter. Her kitchen table was a place of endless welcome, she lived by the rule that there was always enough food for everyone and a seat for whoever needed one. She felt at peace by water, whether it was spending countless summers camping on the St. Lawrence River, or watching the calm flow of the water from her new residence at 3387 Longview Terrace in Baldwinsville where she lived with her daughter. Joanne is survived by her loving sister, Roseanne DeTraglia, and her children: Stanley and Jean (Rossi) Ziemba, Joseph and Patty (Nelson) Ziemba, Michele (Ziemba) and Frank Cutie, and Michael and Leanne (Isabelle) Ziemba. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her ten grandchildren: Marissa Ziemba, Lauren (Josh) Howard, Maxwell (Gina) Cutie, Danielle (Collin) Coogan, Erica (Chris) Richards, Nicole Ziemba, Nathaniel Cutie, Anna Cutie, Emily Ziemba, and Stanley Jr. She was also the adored "GG" to great-grandchildren CJ Coogan, Levi and Lawrence Howard, and Daisy Richards. She will also be missed by her lifelong friends Elizabeth (Bette) Halkovich, Donna Devivo, and Timothy Sass. Joanne is now joyfully reunited with those who went before her: her parents, Joseph and Anna Nicotera; her brother, Joseph (Sonny) Nicotera; her beloved husband, Stanley Ziemba; her son, Anthony Jude; and her grandson, Frankie Cutie. Joanne taught us that life is best lived with a full heart, a full plate, and a little bit of luck at the casino. May her memory be as warm and comforting as the home she built for us all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 21st, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Family will greet friends the hour before Mass, starting at 9:00 AM at the Church: 3127 James Street in Syracuse. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery Dewitt.
